Gone are the days of referring to the pre-spring collections as “cruise.” Yet several resort collections this season seemed high-seas-ready. Interpretations of the United States Navy uniform were both indirect (a very casual denim ensemble at Valentino) and literal (a boxy tunic with jumper flaps at Marc Jacobs, a nautical sweater at Chloé).Looks from the resort collections of (from left) Erdem, Michael Kors and Givenchy.Designers have introduced feminine white lace into their resort collections via masculine trousers. The deep inky blue added intrigue to simple monochromatic ensembles like the floor-length sheath and coat from The Row, Dior‘s classic bar suit and Calvin Klein‘s relaxed, slouchy trousers paired with a suede boat-neck top. Numerous resort shows — including Derek Lam, Bottega Veneta and Michael Kors — made use of bold, 1920s-inspired color blocking in unexpected earth tones on easy day-wear pieces. The result was sporty elegance, with a hint of urban safari. Wu: Simon BurstallLooks from the resort collections of (from left) Calvin Klein Collection, Jason Wu and Marc Jacobs. This resort season, designers have been creating unfussy yet sensual holiday ensembles by pairing a midriff-baring knit top with a relaxed, below-the-knee skirt. Calvin Kleinand Marc Jacobs presented monochromatic looks, offsetting the sexiness of their models’ toned abs with weighty crisscross sandals. Jason Wu, meanwhile, offered a study in neutrals, adding a heel for more of an evening look.
